My earliest connections with paintings have always been works that contain the figure, and its context, and what is implied by this. I like works that grow and change with multiple viewings, their meaning fluid. Certain paintings of the past have this, and in the twentieth century Dada and Surrealism enabled artists to make works with ambiguous content.

I am interested in an obscured narrative, of the absurd, of irony and displacement.  I find that in my own Art practice, it is an enjoyable challenge to combine images of people, objects, and environments in order to create a picture that invites multiple interpretations, and that this sometimes unsettling ambiguity is where the fun is for me.
I pull from my own childhood and family histories, from my recollection of historical events, popular culture, ideas and archetypes that recur in the history of Art.
I feel that my work has a sense of the absurd, of the sense of disconnect and alienation of the modern world, of individuals haunted by their past and their own mortality, or people struggling with their own sense of who they are.
